thestory.run is a LinkedIn writing coach that refuses to write the post for you. You drop in a rough thought. The coach asks one question at a time, finds the point you are circling, lays out a story arc, and then turns editor on the draft you type yourself: keep this line, move that one up. The workspace is organized around a week, not a chat, with a posting pace, one post to finish, daily prompts, a streak, and drafts left half-done. It is built by Swat.io, the Vienna social media company, and runs in the EU. Teams get campaigns, a shared calendar, and a wins board, while drafts and coach conversations stay private from managers. A limited "cheat mode" lets the coach write a post, marked permanently as coach-written. It is free for up to five people, then €1 per coaching session. Skip it if you want posts written for you.
Most LinkedIn AI tools make you the editor of a machine's post, which is why so much of the feed sounds like one person wrote it. thestory.run flips the job: the model asks, you write. The sample session on the homepage is convincing. "A lot of teams confuse doing a lot with progress" becomes an arc about decisions, and the coach's edits are two precise notes, not a rewrite. For someone who knows things and freezes at the blank box, that is more useful than another generated draft.
It is still in beta, and it is narrow on purpose: LinkedIn, your own voice, and light team coordination. If you want posts produced for you from company material, GoodSocials takes the opposite approach at $100 a month. If you only need grammar fixed, ChatGPT is fine. The privacy rule, where your manager sees the calendar but not your drafts, is the detail that makes a company rollout realistic.
Best for founders, salespeople, recruiters, and specialists who post under their own name and want it to sound like them. Skip it if you do not want to do the writing.
