BrowserOS neo is a free, open-source browser built for AI agents. It is a second Chromium that runs alongside your normal Chrome: you import your Chrome profile in one click, connect Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, VS Code, or Zed over MCP, and the agent gets its own tabs — with your real logins — while you keep working in your own window. The new-tab page doubles as a control board showing which agent is running, on which site, and for how long. That separation is the whole idea. Most "AI browsers" ask you to switch: Perplexity's Comet still wants to be your daily driver, and OpenAI's ChatGPT Atlas tried the same before it was shut down on August 9, 2026. Neo skips the fight for your address bar. It is the spare window you hand to an agent so it can use Gmail, GitHub, and Notion under your account — with sessions, screenshots, and replays saved as files on your machine. macOS and Windows, AGPL, bring your own model keys.

The agent needs a browser, not another sidebar

BrowserOS neo gets the primitive right. An agent that does real work needs a real browser session — your cookies, your logins, your SSO — and it should not get yours. A second Chromium profile with a control board and session replay is a better answer than a smarter address bar, and neo is the cleanest version of that answer we have seen shipping.
What we like from the public product: one-click Chrome profile import, MCP connections to the agents you already pay for, a live dashboard of every running agent, and scrubbable replays stored as local files. The FAQ reads like it was written by someone who has watched an agent fail. It says plainly what neo is not — not a cloud browser, not Chrome with a chatbot — and where your data goes, which is nowhere.
Who should skip it: if you wanted ChatGPT to browse for you, use the ChatGPT desktop app or the Chrome extension — that is the path OpenAI actually maintains since retiring Atlas. If Comet is already your daily browser, neo is a second install solving a problem you chose to solve differently. And if you are not comfortable handing an agent your real cookies, stop here; that access is the entire point, and the entire risk.
We rate it 4 out of 5. The rating covers the shipping product and its documentation, which are unusually honest and complete — not a week of production use. We have not yet imported a profile, let an agent run a task that costs money, and audited the replay afterward. When we have, this becomes a 5 or it drops. Install it for a bounded chore first, and keep it away from your bank tab until it earns more.
