screenpipe is a local recorder for everything you see and hear on the computer, built so an agent can ask what actually happened this week. It captures screen frames with OCR when the UI will not give up the text, audio transcripts, and app events, keeps the raw history on the machine by default, and hands selected context to Claude, Codex, or any MCP client. A meeting ending can write notes. “What did I tell John about pricing” searches the tape, not a folder you remembered to save. This is not a Zoom bot and not a media library. It is continuous computer history. Free is one device with recent work. Basic is $21 a month for the full local archive. Business is $33 a seat when you need sync. macOS, Windows, Linux. You can exclude apps and URLs. The honest cost is disk — about 30 GB a month — and the decision to let a model read your screen.

  • History, not a meeting bot: screen, audio, and accessibility events, continuously, with OCR when the UI will not give you the text.
  • Local first, MCP second: the raw tape stays on the machine. Claude, Codex, or your own agent gets what you approve, over a local API and MCP.
  • Pipes that fire: a meeting ending can write notes; a prompt can become a follow-up. You see the trigger, the context, and where the result went.
  • Redact and exclude: block apps, windows, URLs; redact fields on device. Enterprise adds MDM, SSO, and audit.
  • Pricing you can hit: free download; Basic $21/month; Business $33/seat (annual sale $400 the first year as of 31 Aug 2026).

TMRW VERDICT

The agent cannot remember a week you did not record

by TMRW Team·Aug 31, 2026

Most “AI memory” products want you to paste a transcript. screenpipe assumes the interesting part of the week never made it into a file. That is a different job from Clipto, which indexes video and photos you already saved, and from a meeting notetaker you have to remember to invite. If the agent is going to update Linear from “what we actually did,” it needs the screen, not the calendar title.

The homepage is a download, a GitHub count north of 20,000, and a YC badge. The product underneath is a local database plus MCP. That split is the reason to install it, and the reason to be careful. Always-on capture is a privacy decision you do not get to postpone. They let you exclude apps and redact on device. Use those before you celebrate the agent that finally knows what happened in Slack.

Skip it if your work is already in a searchable repo and a ticket tracker — you do not need a screen tape for that. Skip it if you will not spend the disk, or if legal will not let a recorder sit on the laptop. Install the free tier if you keep answering the same “where did we leave that” question to a chatbot that was not in the room.

No stars. We opened the site, pricing, and the agent-preview on the homepage. We have not worn it for a week, measured the 10–30% CPU they quote on an M3, or confirmed that a Claude session over MCP returns the meeting you think it will. A 5 would mean we had.
